Free Universal Book Links: A Geniuslink and Books2Read Alternative

One short address per book that sends readers to every store, in their own country. How Koberger book links compare with Geniuslink and Books2Read.

If you sell a book in more than one store, you have a problem every time you share it. Which link do you post? An Amazon link sends Apple readers to the wrong place, and a UK Amazon link sends American readers to a store that won't sell to them. A universal book link fixes that: one address that sends each reader to their own store.

There are two well-known ways to get one, Books2Read and Geniuslink, and now a third: book links in Koberger. I make Koberger, so I've tried to be as fair to the other two as I'd want them to be to us. Every fact about them below comes from their own websites, checked on 7 October 2026.

The short version

Choose Books2Read if you want it free and you'd like it to find your book in other stores for you, or you want a free author page and reading lists.

Choose Geniuslink if affiliate income matters to you, you want your own domain, or you need detailed reports on where every click came from.

Choose Koberger book links if you format your books in Koberger, or you want a free link with a proper page for each book, readers sent to their own country's store, and a separate Amazon-only link for Kindle Unlimited editions.

What a Koberger book link does

Each book gets a short address, such as koberger.app/b/jekyll-and-hyde. It opens a page with your cover, your blurb and a button for every store that sells the book, grouped into ebook, paperback, hardback and audiobook.

  • Readers get their own store. A reader in Germany who chooses Amazon goes to amazon.de, a reader in Australia to amazon.com.au. Paperbacks only move to a local Amazon where Amazon prints them. Apple Books links switch country too.
  • Readers can remember their choice. Tick a box once and next time they open a book link, they go straight to their store. A Kindle goes straight to Amazon, since that's the only store it can buy from.
  • It works inside your books. In Koberger, pick a book link in a buy links block and it's in your ebook as a link and in your paperback as a short address or a QR code. For Kindle Unlimited editions there's an Amazon-only version, because Amazon doesn't like links to other stores inside the books it sells.
  • It doesn't break. Change the address and the old one keeps working, so links already printed in your paperbacks still lead somewhere.
  • Shared links look right. Post one on social media or in a chat and the preview shows your cover. There's a QR code for bookmarks and posters, too.
  • Stats without tracking. You can see page views, store clicks and countries for the last 7, 30 or 90 days. Readers are counted without cookies or personal data.

It only sends readers to book retailers, such as Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, Bookshop.org, Waterstones and Audible. That's on purpose: it means nobody can use a Koberger address to send readers somewhere they wouldn't expect.

Where Books2Read is stronger

It finds your book for you. Paste one store link and Books2Read searches the other stores and adds them. With Koberger you paste each store's address yourself.

More than links. Books2Read gives you a free author page built from your links, and readers can make reading lists. It's run by Draft2Digital, so if you already publish through them, you have an account.

Some affiliate income. Books2Read lets you add affiliate codes for some stores. Koberger doesn't support affiliate codes.

Where Geniuslink is stronger

Affiliate income is the point. Geniuslink connects your Amazon Associates accounts and earns you commission on clicks in each country. If that money matters to you, nothing else here does it as thoroughly.

Your own domain and deeper reports. For $50 a month on top you can use your own domain, and its reports break clicks down by referrer, device and operating system as well as country.

It isn't only for books. Geniuslink works for any product link, so if you also link to gear, music or apps, one account covers it.

The catch is the cost as you grow. $6 a month covers 1,000 clicks, every extra 1,000 is $3.50, and there's a 14-day free trial. Geniuslink also says that if you close your account, your links may stop working, which matters a lot if they're printed in your paperbacks.

Where Koberger is stronger

It's free, with no click limit. A link that does well costs you nothing more.

It's part of making the book. If you format in Koberger, your book's title, cover, series and blurb fill in for you, and you can drop the link straight into your Also By page.

Built for printed links. Old addresses keep working after a rename, the paperback gets a short address or a QR code, and Kindle Unlimited editions get their own Amazon-only link.

A real page for every book. Each link has a proper page with your cover and blurb, which search engines can list once you've added a blurb.

Which should you use?

If you earn real money from Amazon affiliate links, use Geniuslink. If you want links free and with the least typing, and you publish through Draft2Digital, Books2Read is hard to beat.

If you format your books in Koberger, book links are already there and free, and they're built around the things that go wrong with links in printed books. You can make one in a couple of minutes from your book's details. For more on getting your back matter right, see our other guides.

Frequently asked questions

What is a universal book link?

A single web address for a book that works for every reader. Instead of separate Amazon, Apple Books and Kobo links, you share one address, and it opens a page with a button for each store that sells the book, usually sending readers to their own country's store.

Are Koberger book links free?

Yes. Book links are free on every Koberger plan, including the free plan, with no limit on clicks. Each account can have up to 50 links, and support can raise that if you need more.

Can I use a book link inside my ebook?

Yes. Pick one in a buy links block and it works in your EPUB, and in print as a short web address or a QR code. For Kindle Unlimited and other Amazon-only editions, use the Amazon-only version of the link, because Amazon doesn't like links to other stores inside the books it sells.

Do Koberger book links add affiliate tags?

No. Koberger doesn't add its own affiliate tags to your readers' clicks, and you can't add yours yet either. If affiliate income from Amazon matters to you, Geniuslink is built for it.
